Wireless smart homes: questions, answered
Is a wireless smart home as reliable as a wired system?
A properly designed wireless system is very stable. The difference is that its reliability depends on the quality of the network and on where the components are placed, not only on the hardware. So we plan the component layout and the communication network before installation, rather than relying on the home router as it is.
When is wireless the better choice over wired?
When the home is already built, when you would rather not open the walls, when the property is rented, or when you want to start small and expand gradually. In a new build, on the other hand, wired infrastructure is usually the right long-term investment.
Do walls have to be broken for a wireless smart home?
No. The system works on the existing electrical wiring: the components are installed inside the wall boxes and the electrical panel. No chasing, no new conduits and no building work.
What happens to the system if the internet goes down?
Local scenes keep working: switches, lighting scenes and climate control all run without an internet connection. The only thing that stops is remote control through the app, and it comes back as soon as the connection does.
How long does a wireless installation take?
In a standard apartment, usually one to three working days. In a private house with a wide scope of control, one to two weeks. Since there is no building work, the installation can be done while you live there.
Can I start small and add more later?
Yes, and that is one of its main advantages. You can start with control of the water heater and air conditioning, and gradually add lighting, shutters and security as the budget allows. What matters is that the initial design allows for future expansion.
